Not every job requires a comprehensive re-design. Sometimes small changes can make a big difference and change the dynamics and spaces of a garden.
Sometimes even in the most beautiful of gardens, parts can become wild and unwieldy.
This was the case in one of my favourite gardens in Fetcham where a tired corner needed some reinvention.
I carved out a path using recycled beech poles from a neighbouring garden to connect the ornamental flowerbeds to a newly created vegetable garden.
The back garden of a care home with a sloping bed needed retaining. Sleepers were added and a trellis with climbers were added to a new fence.
Flowering plants were incorporated through the space and an accessible sensory planter was placed at the centre of the small patio.
A front garden in the esteemed Wimbledon Village area needed reinventing for a classic look with minimal upkeep.
This formal layout has a flagstone pathway around a box parterre with specimen planting sitting at the edge.
The final result is a low maintenance space with a striking ornamental feel to it.
With space at a premium in London and the suburbs, smart, simple design is often the key.
For this terraced house in Wimbledon, the existing box hedge was trimmed back and the turf relaid around a curved patio. Attractive flowering plants and climbers were added to give year round interest.
